Is it possible to manage permissions on a category level?
I'd like to be able to limit access (read and write) to certain categories (and subcategories) to approved users (e.g. only users I've added to a certain group or that have a minimum level).

UPDATE: I just realized that this is kind of how groups work inherently. Although it would still be cool to be able to combine categories and groups in this way. It looks like you can't have categories within a group as is.

UPDATE 2: I now figured out that you can submit to a group while still having to select a category. Those submissions then only show up for the group members. This is pretty close to what I need. It would be great to be able to limit a category's visibility to members of a group without each post having to be submitted to that group. It also seems like you can't change the visibility once a post has been submitted. So, if someone forgets to select the group at submission, I would need to ask them to delete and repost to the group, potentially losing votes and comments – not ideal. Thoughts?
I did a file comparison between the Pligg CMS available from the download section (2.0.2) and the masters files from github (https://github.com/Pligg/pligg-cms/archive/39944ed20275cea802c266b4969881af7310ba01.zip)

Users, who still have the 2.0.2 from the download and did not perform the fixes updates from the github master, need to integrate the following fixes that deal with issues and addresses a lot of questions that are posted with regard to stories and their management!

To fix the search for subcategories:
1- When you select a category from the advanced search page, it will not return results from that category and all sub-categories belonging to it
https://github.com/Pligg/pligg-cms/commit/39944ed20275cea802c266b4969881af7310ba01

2- Fix applied to fix the "Show subcategories" feature in Admin > Config > Miscellaneous. Advanced search is still not able to search both main categories and subcategories belonging to them, it will only return results from the selected category
https://github.com/Pligg/pligg-cms/commit/2fcf3bac73246ca27de9e9f23f865153632fe4aa

Fix to the Spam trigger module
1- https://github.com/Pligg/pligg-cms/commit/2faf855793814f82d7c61a8745a93998c13967e0

Fix to the Negative votes to discard a story
1- https://github.com/Pligg/pligg-cms/commit/d05ccab49c8efbc7b0ba69b2ad6e96056652296b

Fix an issue where administrators are unable to use the "Edit Group"
https://github.com/Pligg/pligg-cms/commit/699b881df643561fe2d7eab9d179a0255e5b1567
I'm still trying to find a way to simply have two dropdown categories that I can have for submission. Seems like it'd be such a common thing to have since I've seen topics since 2006 asking how, but never got a clear answer.

For example.. I'm in submission and I use the first category dropdown (e.g. Choose your Area, I choose Southwest) now I need a second category dropdown (that I also can modify like the Categories section in admin) that has options like BMW, Audi, GM and so on..

To clarify again, I need another category dropdown on top of using the included.
In the Admin Panel -> Settings -> Miscellenaous
The "Show subcategories" is by deffault set to false.

If you have subcategories and the default is false, when you click on a category to display all the stories under this category, it won't include its subcategories in the search result. However, if you want to also include the subcategories of the category you are searching, you have to set the value to true.

The code to include the subcategories in the search won't work as it is.

Open the below files and go to te line numbers and replace every instance of
if(! Independent_Subcategories ){

with

if( Independent_Subcategories == true){

\libs\group.php
LINE # 373 ..... if(! Independent_Subcategories ){
LINE # 450 ..... if(! Independent_Subcategories ){
\load_data.php
LINE # 190 ..... if(! Independent_Subcategories ){
\libs\search.php
LINE # 132 ..... if(! Independent_Subcategories ){
\libs\tags.php
LINE # 83 ..... if(! Independent_Subcategories ){
LINE # 115 ..... if (! Independent_Subcategories ){
\userrss.php
LINE # 146 ..... if(! Independent_Subcategories ){
Hi,

In pligg CMS, when the multiple categories option is activated, we can see in the submit page something like the image attached.
I would like to change that view into something like this http://www.bootply.com/61431 , i tried to do it, editing the submit_step_2_center.tpl , but it was not successful for me. Does anybody knows could i change it into that mode?

Thank you!
Hello Chuck,

The demo.pligg.com is already with the 2.0.1 Pligg version? Becauve I've realized (if I'm not wrong) that the sort by categories is still not working properly. If you open http://demo.pligg.com/upvoted/finance/ you'll be able to see that it's sorting the stories by ALL categories, not just by the Finance category.

Thanks!
Are there any plans of letting users create their own categories?

If not, can someone point me to which part of the code I need to look into to start implementing this for my own pligg site? Would it be feasible to implement this feature as a module? I'm fairly new to the code base.
Just a simple question, how to hide all the categories that doesn't contains story? Do you have solution for this such as module, script or whatever trick it is? If there are many, please list all those solutions. Thanks!
