Pligg Support

I am working on the adding friends and sending private message issues referenced in:

http://pligg.com/support/question/how-do-i-send-a-private-message/#c2124
http://pligg.com/support/question/cannot-follow-members/#c2125

I was able to fix a lot in the logic of the code and got good result. However, In order to be able to fix it completely I need to understand the logic of following and followers, therefore I need your help.

Following is when we add a user.
Follower is when a user adds us.

Now, the way I see it is as follows:

If "A" follows "B" and "B" follows "A" then they can message each other.

Otherwise, they can't and an option to accept (follow) the user will be provided.

Is that correct?

Any other feedback will be appreciated to perfect the system!

Possible Answers

I'm going to wait on releasing version 2.0.1 until you come up with a fix for this since you are already working on it. I agree that both people need to friend each other before they should be able to send a message.

Make sure that you are using the latest development version so that we can integrate the fix as easily as possible.

Yes I am using the latest version. Great, I am almost done, by late tonight I will post it. I will also try to install Github and send the files if it is easier for you!

The first part for sure but the second probably needs implementing (I don't know if that's the way it works in Pligg).

The first is probably how Pligg works now.

The second is how I think it should work as best practice but can it be done?

The second way would insure (well almost) that you never miss a wanted or welcome message.

    Thanks again.

Yes, in theory, the first is how it is supposed to be currently, but currently you cannot message as the add friends does not work due to so many bugs that I fixed so far.

So now, i will implement the second part as discussed.

I'll take a stab at this one!

If someone is following you then they have indicated a wish to 'see and/or hear' from you so you should be able to message them!

But.... just because someone is following you doesn't mean they should be able to message you!

And... the above should be configurable!

    1. Ignore messages from followers.

    2. Alert if a follower messages you. (allow or Deny on a individual basis).

    3. Allow any follower to message you.

    4. Allow all messages!!

    5. Actually follow this follower!

I'd go that route (the first two) with or without the configuration option.

And thank you for all the work you've done and for helping me with several issues. You Really Rock!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you jhawkin for the prompt reply, I really appreciate it.

First, you are welcome anytime. :-)

Now, if I understood correctly, you'd go with:

1- If I am following you and you are following me then we can message each other freely (that's a given)

2- If I am following you and you're not, then you can message me freely and I can too but you have to accept or decline the message.

In addition, because I am following you, you will get a option to add me.

    Right?

Including Files or Code

Sometimes it is necessary for you to attach a file or include a snippet of code for others to reference in your response. In most cases, you can .zip up files and attach them to a question or answer using Pligg's file manager. At times though this may fail, and in these circumstances we recommend using a third party host. Below we are including a list of recommended websites where you can share easily share file uploads (or snippets of code) through the web.
