Pligg Magazine Advertisement
Saturday, April 28th, 2007I spent the day with my girlfriend trying to come up with an advertisement idea for a magazine ad. I was asked to prepare an ad to be used for an online distribution magazine that is going to feature several open source projects with full page advertisements. I didn’t want to bore the readers with the same old lists of features and then plaster the logo all over it. Instead we came up with what I find to be a nice little teaser ad that will attract readers to learn more about Pligg. I am interested in finding out how you guys feel about the advertisement, so please post a comment.
Codename: Fraxi, Part I
Saturday, March 24th, 2007I’ve been working on a new template to be used on Pligg.com in the near future, and it has come to be known as Fraxi among the Pligg developers because I originally began designing the template for the domain Fraxi.com. The new template will be made as a Pligg template and as this point I am not intending on making it available for download. Right now it only exists as a Photoshop .psd file of what the future homepage will look like for Pligg, but over the next couple weeks I will finish designing the 14 other pages that need to be made.
We are going to use this new template to help launch the next version of Pligg and help increase the traffic to Pligg.com by demonstrating Pligg on the homepage. I don’t want to give away too many details early on because I’m not sure if we can offer all of the features that I have imagined. I also don’t want to over-hype something that doesn’t exist yet because it’s ridiculous when people get excited over a series of images. To give everyone an idea of the style and color scheme I’ve decided to share a small snippet from the current image. More information will be shared about this template in a follow up post to come soon.
So CLOSE!
Thursday, February 16th, 2006I spent a huge amount of time working on the template for Beta 6 today. It turned out that the other author converting it into tables wasn’t such a great idea so I decided to personally finish this wretched thing. I’m at the point where I can no longer tell if it looks good or not because I have been staring at it for so long and it’s lost its freshness. The final design is amazingly close to what I wanted, even better in many ways. This was my first time trying to write my own CSS code and I’m amazed that I was able to pull this off. The code isn’t the neatest or most streamlined out there, but it gets the job done.
I am very glad to say that the template is VERY near finished. I have tested several of the pages in IE and they all come out well. There are some minor differences between the Firefox and IE renders of the site, but nothing bad. Opera doesn’t like the placement of the search bar last time I checked, but I’m sure it’s something that can be fixed by someone who knows some CSS. The release should come by this evening, if I’m able to keep awake. I have been lacking sleep lately and it’s getting tough to keep up and work on Pligg. Right now all that is left to be done are some of the secondary pages, things like register and profile pages. I got about two thirds of the way through with the secondary pages tonight, they usually don’t take long at all to edit. This evening I will finish doing the secondary pages and testing some of the pages for bugs. The good news is that the overdue release will finally come to the end in the next 24 hours… I promise. If it comes down to me releasign it with a couple small bugs left over I will, I’ll just tack the words “preview release” onto it. But hopefully that won’t happen because it looks like it’s pretty clean as is. I definitely think that I could spend another week polishing parts of the template, but I won’t torture everyone with that, it can always come as a template download.
Here’s a link to the test server (http://www.scadart.com). Check it out and let me know what you think of the design. If you have any suggestions let me know and we’ll try to address them in one of the next releases. There will be bugs the deeper you dig into the site, so don’t freak out. I just haven’t gotten around to editing some of the secondary pages yet. I also have had a problem with getting the footer placed in the right spot consistantly.
Pligg Beta 6 PR Green
Tuesday, February 7th, 2006
I have made some changes to the template in response to some of the comments and to add a new “sneak” icon for the DiggSpy-like feature that will be included with Beta 6. The coloring is still not set as is, it’s lighter than I expected. For some reason Photoshop’s colors appear lighter when you export them. Otherwise, I am very happy with the layout of everything and I feel that it’s time to start cranking out some CSS until I get a bloody nose. If anyone wants to join me on the CSS adventure let me know and I’ll send you an advanced copy of Beta 6 along with the photoshop version of Beta 6 and the Pligg Icon Pack.
Beta 6 Mock-Up
Monday, February 6th, 2006We’ve made some progress with Beta 6’s new template and we are really happy to present a mock-up of what Beta 6 might look like when it is completed. In it’s current form Beta 6 is pretty far off from this mock-up, but I am confident that we will be able to release something close to this image. The only feature that you will see in the image that might not make it into Beta 6 is the demote button. I haven’t really discussed the ability to allow negative voting for articles with AshDigg yet, but I’m sure it’s something that will probably come to be in the future of Pligg. The design is really “girly” right now, but the current color selection isn’t definite. Click on the image below to see a larger version.
Please leave a comment to let me know what you think about the current template. Leave any ideas, suggestions, critiques and I will try to address them.
New Pligg Logo
Tuesday, January 24th, 2006The original concept for the shape came from this post by Tagawa. My girlfriend and I then added to it (she did the work, I did the suggesting) and came up with a ribbon-like P. If anyone wants to improve on the logo you are more than welcome to it.
