Updated Forum Stats
Tuesday, July 24th, 2007Check out the new forum stats area on the bottom of the Pligg Forum. The stats are now cleaner looking and I added “Hottest Threads” and “Most Popular Forums” to the list. You also have the ability to turn off Top Stats by clicking on the box title and selecting “Turn off Top Stats”, but I don’t see why anyone would do that because lists are awesome. I browse the forum mostly by reading the newest threads using the stats page to keep up to date with the latest threads and replies. Don’t forget that if you’re a fan of Digg’s Spy application you might enjoy the Pligg Forum Live view. Check out the images below to see what the new stats box looks like.
Forum Update Today
Wednesday, June 27th, 2007I will be updating the forum and performing some enhancements this evening. If the forum experiences any downtime please be patient and come back in an hour or two and it should all be resolved. To help ease the pain I will only have the forum shut down for a small amount of time and bring it back up as soon as possible. If you’re looking for something to do while the forum is being worked on try adding some new material to the Pligg Wiki. I will update this post once the forum upgrade has been completed.
** UPDATE **
The forums are now back online. The downtime was roughly 10 minutes, which isn’t bad by my standards. You may see some small errors over the next few hours as we continue to update a few more things. Please report any bugs by leaving a reply to this blog post.
Pligg Forum’s Live Page
Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007Last week I showed everyone the forum page that displays the estimated online time for Pligg forum users. This week I am showing off a feature that has never been shown to anyone outside of the developer group before. It’s called the “Live” page, it functions a lot like the Pligg “Live” page, updating information occasionally without having to reload the page. We all love ajax-refreshing pages, so give it a whirl here. Make sure to bookmark the tool because we won’t be sharing this link outside of the blog for a while.
[Fixed] Pligg Forum Attachments Currently Down
Thursday, March 29th, 2007The Pligg Forum attachments have been down since we made the server move over a week ago. I attempted to fix them this afternoon, but my idea failed. I will be attempting to resolve this issue over the weekend so that users can once again attach items to threads. The downloads section of the forum is unaffected by this problem, so you can still download and upload files to that area. I will update this blog entry after fixing the issue. Until then, please host all thread-related files on third party sites such as rapidshare.com and imageshack.us.
Update:
The bug has been fixed and you can once again host attachments on the forum.
Pligg Forum Time Statistics
Thursday, March 29th, 2007I’m a huge fan of web statistics. I love figuring out how many visitors have checked out my site, how much time they have spent on it and even where the person is visiting from. A lot of these statistics are commonly found in site statistic software like Google Analytics and Mint, but neither offer the super-cool statistic tool I’m about to share with you.
This is the semi-new forum time statistics page that displays the estimated amount of time that users have spent on the Pligg boards. This tool can be downloaded from vbulletin.org for free if you own a current license of vbulletin. The installation is really simple and should only take you a few minutes. Some of the people at the top of the list are not accurately represented because of the method they use to view the forum (more on this in a future post), but they do spend a pathetic amount of time cruising the boards for new posts ’round the clock. I love being able to see how much time people spend reading the forum, and this tool displays the top 10 users who really don’t have a life outside of Pligg. Seriously, AshDigg and KBeeveer46 need to get a life. Check out your own rank by visiting the tool here.
General Updates and Pligg Beta 9
Tuesday, December 26th, 2006New to the Pligg Forum navigation bar is a link to the Downloads section and a link to the IRC chat room. The downloads section is a great way to upload your own modules, templates and language files and share them with the community. Uploads are posted to the bottom of your forum profile, you can see an example by looking at my profile here.
Pligg’s first birthday on December 17th was a great success. We released a new version of Pligg (beta 9) on Pligg’s birthday, new to beta 9 are modules. Modules let developers add features to Pligg without having to modify the core code. Currently there are a few modules available to download including a private messaging too, embed video tool and phpbb integration. Development has slowed slightly for the holidays, but you can rest assured that we will pick up the pace after the New Year.
