F.A.Q. regarding a possible Pligg sale.
Last update: 2007/08/30
If you have a question you'd like answered or looking to invest in and/or purchase Pligg, please email ashdigg@gmail.com. thank you.
Q: What is happening with Pligg?
A: The core Pligg developers are finding it
difficult to support Pligg, with both code updates and forum support. We are
looking for an influx of money so that at least 2 of the 4 core developers can
quit their day jobs (or at least go part time) to devote more time to Pligg. We
have hundreds of great ideas for Pligg but not enough time. We decided that we
needed to make some 'noise' to draw attention, so we went with the 'sale' angle.
We are currently in talks with numerous investors / buyers. We will provide more
details when we have them.
Q: If a sale takes place, what exactly would be sold?
A:
1) the domain Pligg.com
2) the Pligg.com forums / wiki (once the spam is removed)
3) SVN access to the Pligg code
Q: Are you selling the Pligg code?
A: No. We are not selling the Pligg 'code'.
We are selling SVN access and the 'Pligg' brand name. A new owner would be able
to continue to update the SVN and release new versions under the Pligg name.
Q: Will Pligg stay open source?
A: That is our intention. Absolute worst
case scenario: A buyer changes to 'closed source'. There is nothing preventing
another person from taking the latest Pligg code and renaming and releasing
updates of their own, continuing with open source.
Q: Does Pligg intend on releasing further
updates and new releases during the negotiations?
A: The
SVN
shows that updates to the 9.x line, which will soon be released as "Stable v1.0"
are being added almost daily.
Q: What license will be used for Pligg 2.0?
A: We're looking at using
this
license.
